PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
The in-depth
curriculum of the Intensive English Program is designed to meet the
needs of international students who are preparing to enter American
colleges and universities, as well as professionals
and other non-English speakers who wish to learn the language skills necessary for language fluency.
Class
schedule: All classes are held daily, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 AM
to 2:30 PM. Sessions are six weeks in length. The scheduled time for each class will vary by session.
Beginning
dates: Classes are held year-round. Session dates are listed
on the Golden Gate Language
School Session Calendar. Students on GGLS' International Student Program should start classes at the beginning of a session. All other students may enter the program at any time.
Placement: All new incoming students must take the Golden Gate Language School English Placement Test
before beginning classes. This exam tests grammar, conversation, listening
comprehension and writing skills for placement into the Intensive English Program. Students should complete the placement test two or three days before registering for classes. Tests are given by appointment only at no charge.
Eligibility:
Any student, regardless of academic, personal or occupational goals,
may take any class for which he/she is qualified for enrollment as determined
by the Director. The minimum age for international students is 18.
Description:
There are 12 levels of instruction and over 50 classes in the Golden Gate Language
School Intensive English Program (IEP). All classes are small with a maximum of 12 students. Each class hour consists of 50 minutes of
class time and a 10-minute break. Full-time
attendance is four or five hours of class per day. Part-time attendance is three hours of class or less per day.
Certificate:
Upon completion of studies, each student is awarded the California
Association of Language Schools Certificate of Achievement.
WHAT
MAKES OUR PROGRAM SPECIAL
IEP
BENEFITS
True
Custom Tailoring of Your Course
Unlike
many programs which put a student at the same assessment level for
all classes, Golden Gate Language School places you at the correct
level for each skill. For example, if your ability is greater in grammar
than in conversation, your grammar class will be at a higher level
than your conversation class. Our 12 level program assures you of
a proper fit. This accurate placement for each class allows you to
learn effectively in all areas.
University
Format for Classes
Over 50
courses are offered in our program including a variety of elective
classes such as Business Conversation, TOEFL Grammar, Speaking Naturally
and Pronunciation. At many levels, you not only take courses which
are required, but you can also choose courses that are of special
interest to you.
Multiple
Instructors
Rather
than restricting you to one teacher for all subjects, students at
Golden Gate Language School (GGLS) have a designated instructor for
each class (per 6 week session). This gives you the opportunity to
learn from a team of qualified English speaking professionals.
Many
Friends and Small Group Classes
As in
college, you may have different classmates in each of your classes.
This arrangement makes it easier to find new friends and to learn
about other cultures. Classes are limited to 12 students, ensuring
greater personal attention and opportunities to participate.
Flexible
Entry and Course Length
Students
may enter the program at any time. Course length will vary from one
week to one year, depending upon each individual's goals and language
proficiency. We carefully monitor your progress to make sure that
you are reaching your objectives.
College
Advising Service
Golden
Gate Language School maintains excellent relations with colleges and
universities in the Bay Area and beyond. College catalogs, applications
and admissions information are available to students. GGLS graduates
are regularly accepted into the college or university of their choice.
Conditional College
Acceptance Program
This program enables
students to apply to both GGLS and an affiliate university
or college at the same time. Upon approval, the affiliate
institution will issue a letter of conditional acceptance.
